Visiting: Temple of Artemis, Ephesus Ancient City, Sirince Greek Village
Duration: 9 hours
You will find your professional, local guide waiting for you as you exit Çeşme Harbour, ready to escort you on a day tour around Selcuk, including the ancient city of Ephesus and the charming Greek village of Sirince.
With a population of more than 200,000 people, Ephesus was once one of the largest Roman cities of its time and is the first stop on our itinerary. It dates back to the 10th century BC but its ruins are still in excellent condition, including the Odeon, the Temple of Hadrian and, perhaps its most photographed building, the illustrious Library of Celsius with its beautifully adorned facade.
Sirince Greek Village
We will then drive a short way out of town to visit the small Greek Village of Sirince. Once dubbed Cirkince, or 'ugly', by its inhabitants to deter others from settling there, it is now aptly name Sirince which translates as 'pleasant'. Its cobblestone streets are lined with old houses dating back to the 19th century that scatter up the surrounding hillside, and its markets are filled with locals selling homemade goods and produce.
If you would like to visit the Terrace Houses section of the Ancient City of Ephesus we will allow plenty of time, but please be aware that it has an extra entrance fee of 15 USD per person. A highlight is its oldest building, "The houses of the rich Romans", which dates back to the 1st century BC and still exhibits beautiful mosaics and frescoes adorning the walls. Please be aware that in this section there are over 100 stairs so we do not recommend it for people with physical disabilities.
